Two related possibilities come to mind: SNOBOL4/SPITBOL and ICON.
These are the work of Ralph Griswold, Emeritus Professor of Computer
Science at the University of Arizona (where he did the ICON work) and
formerly of Bell Telephone Laboratories (SNOBOL4).
Two URL's are http://www.snobol4.com, which will take you to Catspaw
where you can find information about SNOBOL4 and
http://www.cs.arizona.edu/icon, where you will find information
about ICON.
