For a while, it seemed to be handicapped by being designed to support
all the other scripting languages (e.g. Write a Tcl->Scheme
translator, Perl->Scheme translator, etc.).


I think that Scheme faces an uphill battle as a generally accepted
scripting language for the same reason that it faces an uphill battle
as a generally accepted general-purpose language. A relatively small
number of people understand it well enough to appreciate it, but the
majority of people seem to feel that it is weird or otherwise
unpleasant to use.
