                                                        Special Issue of the
                            Journal of Parallel Algorithms and Applications
                                                                          on
                                Optimising Compilers for Parallel Languages




Papers are solicited for a special issue of the Journal of Parallel
Algorithms and Applications focusing on Optimising Compilers for
Parallel Languages planned for the winter of 1996. The special issue
will bring together the research done in the areas of optimizing
compilers, operating systems and large-scale multiprocessors with
the goal of improving the performance of parallel scientific computation.
Papers submitted to the Optimization in Parallelizing Compilers
minitrack of the 29th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences
will also be considered for publication.


Original, unpublished contributions which focus on the impact that
operating systems and machine architectures have on parallelizing
compilers are invited. Topics of interest include (but are not limited
to) task creation and scheduling in multithreaded multiprocessors, cache
performance optimization and software prefetching, communication performance
prediction and optimization for regular and irregular parallel computation,
compile and run time support for task parallelism, automatic task
definition and data distribution, loop transformation theory and program
partitioning.


Authors should follow the PAA manuscript format. Five copies of complete
double-spaced manuscripts should be sent to one of the two guest editors
by February 29, 1996. The authors will be notified of the decision by
June 30, 1996 and the final manuscript ready for publication will be due
by July 31, 1996.
