Simon L. Peyton Jones (of the University of Glasgow) and David R. Lester
(of the University of Manchester) are supposed to be coming out with a new
book on implementing functional languages sometime in the near future. It
goes into considerable details of a G-machine compiler. The
implementation language used is Miranda, but I'm sure you'll still find it
useful.
