This is a digest of ``help wanted'' and ``position available'' messages
received at comp.compilers during the preceding week. Messages must
advertise a position having something to do with compilers and must also
conform to the guidelines periodically posted in misc.jobs.offered.
Positions that remain open may be re-advertised once a month. To respond

POST-DOC OPPORTUNITIES
++++++++++++++++++++++

The SAFIR Group of INRIA and the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis
is offering two postdoctoral positions in Automatic Differentiation
in 1997.

Automatic Differentiation is a program transformation technique.
>From a code that computes a function, an Automatic Differentiation Tool
generates a new code which computes the derivatives of the function.
Work in this area involves methods from compiler construction,
computer algebra, and scientific computing.

These positions offer excellent working conditions and the opportunity
to specialize in Automatic Differentiation. The SAFIR Group performs
research in this area and continues to use and develop its own
Automatic Differentiation Tool, Odyssee.

Details of the positions are as follows:

PD9802. Automatic Differentiation and Parallel Codes
==========================================================
The aim of this work is to study the relationship between
Automatic Differentiation and Parallelization. End users of AD
are obviously interested in parallelization, because the
programs they are working on, are so large and time consuming.

It is not fixed yet whether Automatic Differentiation must run
on Parallel codes, or parallelization on Differentiated
codes. In any case, this means to extend the languages
accepted and/or generated by Odyssee.
This may also require the devellopment of new algorithms for
Differentiation.

This work will lead to the definition of a mockup of
Odyssee for parallel codes and will be tested on codes
from Dassault and Meteo France.

This position is related to the European Project DECISION
and the Génie program (Dassault-Aviation,Aerospatiale,INRIA).

In each case, the candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics
or Computer Science. Previous experience in Automatic Differentiation,
compiler construction, and programming in Caml or SML would be ideal.

Please send a letter of interest with your CV before 1st of July to
