Call for Participation
======================
As in previous years, the Eiffel Summit will be held in
cooperation with TOOLS USA '98 (Santa Barbara, August 3-7,
1998). The event will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 1998.
The meeting will provide a forum for Eiffel users and
developers to meet, share experiences, learn about ongoing
Eiffel projects, interact with the developers of the
technology and exchange with peers who have been successful
in implementing Eiffel-generated application. The Workshop
will open with a presentation by Bertrand Meyer, president
of ISE Inc. and main designer of Eiffel.
Contributions are being sought on all aspects of Eiffel
and related topics. Examples may include:
Reports and experiences with ongoing Eiffel projects
- Appropriate and inappropriate problem domains for Eiffel
- The impact of Eiffel on a organizations existing culture
- Effects of Eiffel on legacy systems
- Examinations of major successes and failures
Eiffel tools and reusable components, libraries
- Design patterns
- Contract patterns
- Framework design
- Interfacing Eiffel to other languages
Future developments
- Embedded applications
- Internet applications
- Multimedia applications
- Distributed applications
Methodological issues, project management
- CASE tool vendors and Eiffel
- The impact of Eiffel on team roles
- UML and Eiffel
- Component management
Teaching Eiffel and object technology
- Reports from legacy engineers now using Eiffel
- Comparing the ease of using Java and Eiffel
Eiffel and the rest of the world (C/C++, Java,
CORBA, OLE, ActiveX)
- Anything of potential interest to an Eiffel
aware audience
In submitting your proposal, please include:
1. Paper title
2. Name and affiliation of author
3. Contact information
4. Full paper
Authors who wish to submit a paper should restrict
it to between 5-10 pages. The selected contributions
will be included in the IEEE-published TOOLS 26
Conference Proceedings. Proposals should be submitted
electronically in plain text format.
DEADLINES
Submissions: May 1, 1998
Notification of Acceptance: May 15, 1998
Camera-ready papers: June 5, 1998

Christopher Creel is an information architect with The
Technical Resource Connection, a consulting firm that
develops enterprise architectures, distributed computing,
Internet/intranet applications, and software engineering
processes. TRC builds large-scale distributed applications
(primarily front-end of multi-tier systems) and embedded
applications using technologies such as Java, Eiffel,
the Internet and CORBA.
