While the earliest copy of Turbo Pascal that I have and can personally
testify concerning is vers. 2.0 for CP/M (and it clearly produces native
code stand-alone .COM files), the review in MicroCornucopia when vers.
1.0 came out clearly describes it as a native-code compiler: "This
column is a review of a new native code PASCAL compiler, Turbo Pascal,
from Borland International." John P. Jones, "Pascal Procedures,"
Microcornucopia, No. 16, p. 30 (Feb. 1984). Borland's advertisement in
the same issue, expressly describes the product as a "One pass native
code compiler."
