Nobody mentioned REXX as an extension language. IMHO it is one of the
classics. Versions exist for almost any platform. I suggest you look
around comp.lang.rexx.
One of the cool things is that there is a standard way to integrate the
language with various systems, and the smae REXX code can invoke multiple
systems.
The language has some web pages dedicated to it - so an AltaVista search
may be useful.
