From: Peter Davidson <peterd@tao.co.uk>
Subject: Tao Systems Translator Engineers (England)
Date: Thu, 29 May 1997 18:06:05 +0100

Tao Systems Ltd. has an immediate requirement for software engineers to
work in their Reading UK office. A privately held UK company Tao is backed
by Motorola Inc. and has major development programmes under way based upon
the Elate operating system from Tao.

Elate is an embedded operating system available as a stand alone OS or can
co-exist with host operating systems and uniquely uses binary code
translation techniques to achieve full binary portability of applications
across platforms. This translation process retains the performance of hand
coded native assembler and exceptional memory efficiency. The whole of
Elate is object based from the ground up and provides a vendor definable
system kernel. Further information can be found at http://www.tao.co.uk.

The Opportunity
Software engineers are required to work on design, development and testing
of the Elate translators. These translators are required to be very small
and extremely fast, producing optimal native code for the target processor
from the Tao Virtual Processor code. In addition to writing the
translators it will be necessary to build test suites, libraries and
assemblers and to work alongside other groups for platform porting.
Programming will be in Elate VP assembler.

The Candidate
Candidates should have either a related degree or at least three years
commercial experience in relevant areas including experience in programming
in several assembler codes, with well developed assembly skills. A
knowledge of object orientated systems, familiarity with a range of
processor architectures and the ability to work both independently and as
part of a team is required. Experience with compiler backend technology
would be an advantage but is not essential.

conditions of employment to:
