PDPTA'97 PRE-CONFERENCE TUTORIAL
================================
RELIABLE PARALLEL PROGRAMMING WITH JAVA(TM)
June 29 1997
Monte Carlo Resort & Casino
Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
PDPTA'97 Pre-Conference Tutorial (The 1997 International Conference on
Parallel and Distributed Processing Techniques and Applications):
------------------------------------------------------------------------
This tutorial presents the results of recent work on methods for
developing provably deadlock-free and livelock-free parallel programs
with Java(TM). The tutorial will begin with a discussion of Java
threads in the context of Hoare's CSP (Communicating Sequential
Processes). The design of embedded systems using CSP will then be
covered. An introduction to Communicating Java(TM) Threads, which are
implemented in a class library on top of Java(TM), will follow. The
afternoon will start off with a presentation on the use of CSP to
design deadlock-free systems. The day concludes with an extended
session of practical examples.
Participants are urged to register early due to space limitations.
