Perhaps. Some people like Ford or NOAO have tests were they print out lots of
number to high precision. It's more important to them that the numbers
don't change with compiler releases than the numbers be correct.


Whether this is sensible is beside the point if they're the ones (directly
or indirectly) paying your for your salary.
