The Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing is announcing a special
issue on PARALLEL AND DISTRIBUTED DATA STRUCTURES.

Parallel and distributed computing is one of the important areas of research
in computer science, seeking to extract and exploit inherent parallelism in
problems, in order to gain speedup over sequential solutions. Since data
structures play crucial role in algorithm design, significant advancement
in parallel programming and hence wide-spread use of commercial parallel
computers will not be feasible without a rich collection of efficient
parallel and distributed data structures for large-scale problems.

This special issue of Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing aims
to publish high quality papers on the design, analysis and implementation
of state-of-the-art parallel and distributed data structures. Of particular
interest are efficient and practical algorithms for real-life applications
as well as performance studies on commercially-available parallel
architectures such as shared-memory multiprocessors, distributed-memory
multicomputers and networks of workstations.

Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Design and Implementation of Parallel and Distributed Data Structures

* Applications of Parallel and Distributed Data Structures

* Conflict-Free Data Structure Access in Multiprocessors

* Special-Purpose Architectures for Data Structure Implementations

* Communication, Synchronization and Scheduling Issues

* Mapping, Partitioning and Load Balancing Issues

* Randomized Algorithms for Parallel and Distributed Data Structures

* Parallel and Distributed Data Structures applied to such areas as
VLSI CAD, Databases, Graphics and Image Processing, Simulation,
    Graph Problems, Computational Geometry, etc.

Prospective authors of high quality research contributions are invited to
submit 6 copies of a complete manuscript not exceeding 35 double-spaced
pages (including tables, figures, references and appendices) by
MARCH 15, 1997 to any of the following Guest Editors. All submissions

to the Special Issue will be refereed according to the standards of the
Journal of Parallel and Distributed Computing.
