THE UNIVERSITY OF WAIKATO
Hamilton, New Zealand

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN TEMPORAL LOGIC PROGRAMMING (fixed term)
Department of Computer Science
School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral fellowship in Computer
Science for a fixed term of two years at the University of Waikato.
Applicants should hold a recent PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent
qualification) and should have a research background in logic
programming. Experience in one or more of the following areas is also
desirable: relational/deductive databases, constraints, and
simulation.

The successful applicant will be expected to conduct research on the
design and implementation of a temporal logic programming language,
Starlog, and to participate in an ongoing project in this area.
Starlog incorporates a mixed bottom-up, top-down execution mechanism

constraints associated with tuples control execution order and allow
for a declarative representation of updates and I/O. Members of the
Starlog project team include John Cleary, Don Smith, and Geoff Holmes.

Departmental computing resources include a SparcServer-1000
multiprocessor, an extensive network including SUN, SGI Indy, NeXT,
Pentium, and Macintosh PowerPC workstations, a variety of Unix
