PhD Studentship available in Computer Architecture for Multimedia and Graphics

Part of the Computer Architecture group at the University of Bristol
is working on instruction set enhancements for multimedia, and the
associated compiler technology. The work includes the design of better
multimedia support for future generation processors, and compilation
technology for multimedia support in existing processors, (for
example, HP PA-RISC, Sun Ultra-Sparc, SGS-Thomson Chameleon, Intel
MMI). The group is headed by David May. Research is performed in
collaboration with, and funded by, the micro electronics industry,
currently Hewlett Packard Research Labs Bristol and SGS-THOMSON
Microelectronics.

The group has a vacancy for a PhD studentship, funded by SGS-THOMSON.
The grant is for three years and covers both subsistence (6000 pounds
per annum) and EU-fees. The studentship can start at any date, as soon
as possible.

Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a good honours degree in
Computer Science or a related discipline. Further enquiries can be
