The deadline for submission for the special issue of JPDC on
----
"Compilation Techniques for Distributed Memory Systems" has been
-----------------------------------------------------
extended till October 23rd '95. This has been done in order
------------------------------
to give authors more time for preparing the manuscripts in view
of two important deadlines coming soon : Oct. 17th NSF CAREER
Award Proposals, Oct. 20th PLDI '96. Authors should post-mark
their submissions on or before October 23rd.
We have been getting many enquiries about whether the work
previously published in conferences is acceptable for the special
issue or not. We would like to clarify that work previously published
in conferences with additional material is acceptable but work published
or accepted in journals is not. In case the manuscript is under review
in any other journal, the authors must inform the editors of the same.
The Call for Papers is enclosed below.

Compilation Techniques for Distributed Memory Systems
-----------------------------------------------------
Papers are solicited for a special issue of the Journal of Parallel
and Distributed Computing (JPDC) on `Compilation Techniques for
Distributed Memory Systems' to be published in August 1996.
The objective of this special issue is to provide for an archival forum
to report new, original research findings related to
the theory and practice behind compiling for distributed memory systems.
The special issue will help to investigate the inter-relationships
between different aspects and identify the future directions
and the research focus in the next decade in this field.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
-- Exact dependence analysis/dataflow techniques
-- Data distribution techniques and data locality
-- Data and code based program partitioning
-- Computation/Communication tradeoffs
-- Communication and data movement optimizations
-- Loop transformations
-- Run time systems
-- Compiling interprocedural functional parallelism
-- Compiling data parallel languages (such as High Performance Fortran)
-- Language design issues
-- Architecture specific optimizations
Authors should follow the JPDC manuscript format described in the
`Information for Authors' at the end of each issue of JPDC.
Five copies of complete double-spaced manuscript should be sent (post-marked)
to either of the co-guest editors by October 23rd, 1995.
Authors will be notified of the final publication decision
by February 1, 1996. The manuscripts must demonstrate
original work not published/accepted for publication in any other journal.
