CALL FOR PAPERS

Workshop on Compiler Support for System Software
                                                              WCSSS'96
                                                      Tucson, Arizona
                                                  February 23-24, 1996

                                                          Sponsored by:
                                                          ACM SIGOPS
                                                          ACM SIGPLAN

WCSSS'96 is being organized to create a forum to bridge the gap between
compiler developers and system software developers. It is our opinion
that the problems and opportunities for compiler support of system
software are most effectively addressed by gathering interested researchers
in both areas to exchange problems and ideas.

Authors are invited to submit short papers (2-8 pages) describing
their research concerning the application of compilers and compiler
concepts to system software. Excessively long papers may be rejected
immediately by the Program Chair. Papers may describe preliminary or
partial results as well as finished research. Position papers are
also welcome. Papers already published elsewhere are not acceptable.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

- Software Fault Isolation
- Partial Evaluation and Program Specialization
- Network Application Distribution Formats (e.g., Java, Omniware)
- Special-Purpose Compilers
- Run-Time Code Generation
- Executable Editing

Workshop attendance will be limited to at most 40 participants and will
be by invitation only. The Program Committee will determine invitations
based on the papers submitted.

Accepted papers will be reproduced for workshop attendees only. A WWW site
will be set up for electronic distribution of accepted papers at the
discretion of the authors. By not publishing the papers in any officially
sanctioned way, we hope to avoid potential problems for authors who desire
other publication venues (e.g., PLDI, ASPLOS, etc.) that severely restrict
duplicate publication.

We strongly encourage electronic paper submission. Send postscript to
the Program Chair via electronic mail to the address below. (Should
this be impossible, send 12 copies of the paper (double-sided, if possible)
to the address below.) Be sure to include postal and e-mail addresses
and voice and fax numbers on the first page of each paper.

Paper Submission Deadline: October 30, 1995
Paper Review Decisions Mailed: December 11, 1995
Camera Ready Manuscript Due: January 8, 1996

Questions about WCSSS'96 may be directed to the wcsss96@cs.arizona.edu
or the appropriate chair. We will be maintaining a mailing list of
researchers interested in the workshop. If you would like to receive all
further announcements about WCSSS'96 please send email to
wcsss96@cs.arizona.edu requesting to be added to the distribution list.
Note this list will only be used for official workshop announcements.
