MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES


- Increase the compiler optimizer usage level of strategic VABs and
    internal HP code paths by working with internal R&D organizations.


    Involves consulting with HP VAB support groups and VABs on how to use
    the compiler optimizer as well as hands-on performance tuning of VAB
    applications.


- Increase the usage of the optimizer among general software development
    customers.


    Work with HP R&D and Marketing teams and HP Field to improve optimizer
    marketing, training, and consulting materials, optimizer usability,
    and customer awareness.




MUST SKILLS


- general technical competence in languages, compilers, optimization

  The Development Tools group is looking for an individual to make tool
  and compiler level enhancements to Convex's interactive performance
  analyzer (CXpa) and symbolic program debugger (CXdb). These tools
  support debugging and profiling of highly optimized parallel
  applications. The compiler/tools interface represents a key component
  in multiple front-end compiler system that is targeted for
  high-performance, multiprocessor computer systems.


  Requirements:


  Candidates should be familiar with all phases of compilation. In
  addition candidates should have experience in a number of the
  following areas: object-oriented development, C++, multiprocessor
  systems, compiler optimization and code generation, HP object file
  formats, and Unix systems programming. Experience in development of
  symbolic debuggers and program performance analysis tools is highly
  desirable.


  Candidate must have good oral and written communication skills. The
  candidate should enjoy working on a modest sized and tightly
  integrated group project. The candidate must be self motivated and
  self directed. The candidate should be motivated to contribute to the

  Education:

application support engineers! The engineer in this position will
specialize in GNU C/C++ compiler and debugger maintenance, enhancement
and support for Tektronix host- and cross-development environments.
This strategically important position requires working closely with
software engineers throughout Tektronix, helping them to resolve problems
encountered while using standard software tools, as well as to help them
make their applications more efficient and reliable. The occasional
development and instruction of training courses is required for this
position. The engineer will also lead a project to investigate computer-
aided software engineering tools, particularly object-oriented analysis
and design tools. At the senior engineer level, the person in this
position will directly influence the future direction of operating-
system, compiler and debugger technologies used at Tektronix.




Skills/Competencies Required/Preferred:


BSCS or BSEE required; MSCS or MSEE strongly preferred. Strong emphasis in
software engineering technologies preferred. Excellent oral and written
communication skills required. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-
resolution skills required. Excellent teamwork and self-motivational skills
required. Ability and willingness to simultaneously perform both extremely
complicated technical work and routine work required. C programming experience
required; C++ programming experience strongly preferred. Background/coursework
about compilers and debuggers required; experience with the GNU compiler and
debugger strongly preferred. Background/coursework about real-time operating
systems required; experience in supporting and/or developing real-time
operating systems preferred; experience with supporting and/or developing with
VxWorks strongly preferred. Background/coursework about software configuration
management systems preferred; experience with Atria ClearCase strongly
preferred. Background in computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools
preferred.

position at a lower level.
