I would like to obtain an introduction to compiler
optimisation methods - ie what *exactly* happens when you add
that -O option.


Can anyone recommend material available on the net -
maybe there's a FAQ around - I've looked but no luck so
far.

[I'd consult some of the compiler texts listed in the FAQ. But I don't know
of any books that discuss newer optimiaztion techniques. -John]
