Metrics from compilers? Paul_Long@ortel.org (1994-12-21) |

I've been talking with Capers Jones on CompuServe, and he says that compiler
and analysis-tool vendors could double their sales if they supported
backfiring function points. (Neat buzzwords, huh?) How much value would
you place on a compiler that also generated various metrics? (The
implementation would be trivial, so we don't need to talk about that.)
I told him that I didn't think it would affect compiler sales at all because,
as a generalization, the buyers of compilers aren't interested in metrics.
If they do become so, they would probably go looking for an analysis tool
that did what they needed. BTW, does anybody know of a tool that is
primarily used for program translation that also generates software metrics,
e.g., cyclomatic complexity or SLOC?
