If you have Alphas, I'ld suggest using them. No delay slots, and few
other irregularities.
(We used Alphas last year. Almost all of the students succeeded in
compiling a Mandelbrot fractal generating program, and many went on to
implement several spiffy optimizations or extensions to the language.)
