This note summarizes the releases we have just made of our student-
oriented Ada development systems for DOS/386 and Mac.


We first released the Mac version on Junary 24, 1994, and immediately
received a number of notes describing anomalies in downloading as well as
a few other bugs. We have corrected the anomalies and bugs, and put an
update in the Public Ada Library on wuarchive.wustl.edu. We believe that
we have fixed everything that we can fix in the short run, and do not
anticipate another release until late spring or summer. At that time, we
hope to have completed the interesting runtime monitoring capabilities
already available in the DOS version.


On the DOS side, we have done a certain amount of re-packaging, added a
few new libraries, and packaged the source code (Intel C compatible) for
distribution. The update is now installed in the PAL as well. Unless
there is an egregious error in the distribution, we expect that this
release will be our final one.


GW-Ada/Ed supports a full-language Ada83 compiler, which produces virtual
code for execution by a virtual-machine simulator (interpreter) included
in the distribution. The compiler was validated by the U.S. government
several years ago.


For those of you with very small Macs or PC's, you might enjoy playing
with SmallAda, our older systems, which support the "Pascal subset" of Ada
plus the multi-tasking facilities. The multi-window task runtime
monitoring has proved interesting for classes studying concurrency.
SmallAda is released with Pascal source code; we have ceased doing any
development or maintenance on the SmallAda systems.

where to find this software. All of these distributions will also be
included on the forthcoming new edition of the Ada CD-ROM published by
Walnut Creek Software.
