We are using xfig/transfig. It's a fine drawing tool running
with X11. It outputs various different formats e.g. PS, EPS
LaTeX, XBM, ...
If you use the LaTeX output capabilities you can include your
drawings in your LaTeX edited files.
You'll find the packages on ftp.x.org:/xcontrib or a
X11 stuff contributing site near you.
