[re PhD programs in compilers and parallel architectures]
Check out Rutgers, too. Although there's not a huge emphasis on
compilers per se, there is a strong and active program in dataflow and
static analysis (with five Ph.D.s granted in that area alone), and an
emerging effort in mobile computing. In the architecture area, there
are current projects in optical computing and scalable architectures.
Industry tie-ins of which I am aware include Bell Labs, Bellcore, and
Siemens, all local to the area. Mail me for more details.
