There is a technical report from University of Illinois,
"Using profile information to assist classic code optimization"
The technical report number is CRHC-91-12 (that is center for
reliable and high-performance computing in the Electrical and
computer engineering department).


The same article will also appear in the near future in
Software Practice and Experience.


They have reported an average of 15% speedup over a solid base
performance (the base which is comparable to MIPS-CC -O4).
