There was a session about teaching compiler courses at the SIGCSE 2006
conference. The papers included:

Chirp on crickets: teaching compilers using an embedded robot
controller
<http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1121341.1121370>

The compiler course in today's curriculum: three strategies
<http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1121341.1121371>

Fifteen compilers in fifteen days
<http://doi.acm.org/10.1145/1121341.1121372>

Checking quickly, I see a similar session at SIGCSE 2005, and other compiler-
related papers at SIGCSE 2004 and 2003.

Perhaps these pointers will get you started. Best wishes ---

Eric.
