The book is a bit dated, but since a large amount of the activity
related to language design and compiler construction is rooted in the
1960s and onward, I think it is completely relevant.
The book "The Theory and Practive of Compiler Writing", Tremblay and
Sorenson, ISBN 0-07-065161-2, has a *large* chapter (70 pages) of
advice on the design of languages.
