Subject: Research Programmer Position Available at MIT (Cambridge MA)
Date: Mon, 16 Aug 2004 12:15:53 -0400
Organization: MIT

The Commit compilers group (http://cag.csail.mit.edu/commit) at the MIT
Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory
(http://csail.mit.edu) is seeking a RESEARCH PROGRAMMER (RP) to support its
compiler research. Commit conducts research on programming language design,
program analysis, compilation, and optimization. The goal is to deploy a
programming language and a compilation infrastructure specifically
engineered for modern streaming and DSP-oriented systems. The RP will assist
in developing a compiler that implements novel optimization techniques that
are geared toward an effective mapping of a new programming language to a
variety of target architectures, including commercial processors, grid
architectures, and tiled-processor architectures. The RP will also interact
with academic and potential commercial users in order to understand their
needs and to enhance or extend the compilation infrastructure or to build
new tools to facilitate the adoption of the technology.

REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science and
substantial experience with engineering compilers and backend optimizations.
Must have exceptional programming expertise in Java/C/C++ and be well versed
in Perl/Python. Must have extensive experience analyzing existing compiler
code; and specifying, documenting, and implementing new compiler modules,
with a focus on backend optimizations. Background in DSP a plus. Ability to
work with Ph.D. and master's students in a fast-paced, leading-edge research
group a must. Industry experience desirable.
