it depends on where you are able to get admission into.
stanford is doing leading work in the area of compiler optimizations led by
Prof. Monica Lam. they have a compiler called SUIF which is a study case
(along with lex and yacc) in most compiler courses.


Berkeley has a v strong group in computer architecture (read RISC) so if
code generation is your specialization, you may want to try there. other
places include Uiuc (Univ. Of Illionis And Urbana Champagne), Carneige
Mellon Univ Etc. Uc San Diego Does Some Work On High Performance Compilers
Too. basically there are 10s of places. and you need to look at the set of
schools which are ready to give you admission to sort them out.
