Manta version 0.1 has been released,
it can be found at:

http://www.cs.vu.nl/manta

It contains a java compiler that goes from java source code
directly to assembler (no intermediate C).
It thus contains its own (new) backend.
Currently it only generates x86, sparc/ia-64/ARM are on its way.
