Workshop on Profile and Feedback-Directed Compilation

In Conjunction with the International Conference on
Parallel Architectures and Compilation Techniques (PACT 98)

                                    Paris, France October 13, 1998

This workshop is intended to be a forum for bringing together
researchers in the area of feedback-directed compilation and
optimization. Talks will be solicited emphasizing new ideas and
experience with building feedback-directed systems. There will be a
limited number of talks in order to allow the audience to
participate. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

      * Analysis to estimate program behavior
      * Profile techniques to measure program behavior
      * Techniques for estimating the benefit of optimization
      * Program analysis based on measurements, estimates, or program behavior
      * Compiler optimization based on measurements, estimates, or program
          behavior
      * Adaptive execution, dynamic compilation and continuous
          profiling/optimization
      * Behavior analysis and optimization to improve memory hierarchy
          performance (e.g., cache-conscious data structures)
      * Experiences with real systems

There will be no published proceedings. However, workshop attendees
will receive copies of the papers. We chose not to seek publication of
the workshop proceedings to allow papers to more easily be published
in a later conference or journal.

Submission Guidelines: Talks will be accepted on the basis of a short
abstract that describes the work and the novel algorithms or
experiences that resulted from it. Email a ghostviewable PostScript 5
page abstract uuencoded to pfdc@cs.ucsd.edu by August 21st. Send email
if these requirements are a hardship. At the top of the email
submission (in text) include (1) title of paper, (2) list of authors,
(3) email and phone number of contact author, and (4) a 200 word
summary of abstract. In addition, include the contact information on
the title page of the abstract. You should receive a notification of
your submission by the following week. Authors will be notified of
acceptance or rejection by September 5th, and the final abstracts are
due September 25th.

Deadlines:

5 Page abstract due by Aug. 21, 1998

Notifications by Sept. 5, 1998

Final abstracts (maximum of 10 pages) due Sept. 25, 1998
