(I don't know if this is the right place of this but I couldn't find
a better one.)

I would like pointers to information on how Source Level Debuggers
work. For example in the C language debuggers dbx and gdb are quite
popular; I would like to know how they work. And what about for other
languages?

I am mainly interested in source level debugging of compiled code.
