Maybe not. The gnuish project has done many ports of basic Unix(tm)
type utilities into DOS. Available on any SIMTEL mirror, as gnuish/
Without looking, there are probably some sh(1) type shells available
for DOS, and that might be easier to work with.
For those with a propensity for paying money for SW, the MKS toolkit
is often recommended.
