There is currently a vacancy for a Senior Microarchitect and a Senior
Lead System Architect at Motorola in Austin, Texas, at Motorola's ASP
(Architecture & Systems Platforms) group. Here are the details of the
two positions:


PowerPC Senior Microarchitect


Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:


Lead the design of a next-generation, high-performance, high-frequency
microprocessor core which balances chip area, pipeline frequency,
power consumption, and instruction-processing efficiency to meet
target market needs. Write a high-level behavioral model of the
microprocessor core. Coordinate and/or edit architecture and
microarchitecture documentation.


Specific Knowledge:


Experience in implementing high-performance microprocessor
microarchitectures, including logic design and circuit
design. Extensive knowledge in a wide range of microprocessor
microarchitecture fields including, but not limited to, instruction
fetch and prefetch, branch prediction, instruction decode, register
renaming, instruction dispatch, scheduling and execution, load/store,
on-chip cache-memory subsystem design, and coherent bus-interface
design. Understanding of symmetric multiprocessor design issues,
including cache coherency and atomic operations. Must have at least 5
years' experience.


PowerPC Senior Lead System Architect


Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:


Act as lead system architect for next-generation, high-performance,
high-frequency processor product which balances chip area, pipeline
frequency, power consumption, and instruction-processing efficiency to
meet target market needs. The candidate will interact with the
microprocessor microarchitects and lead the overall SoC device
architecture. Coordinate and/or edit architecture and
microarchitecture documentation.


Specific Knowledge:


The candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge in
high-performance SoC device architecture. Experience with
high-performance system design including high-performance
interconnects, memory interfaces and technology, system-interrupt
management, cache-coherency protocols, DMA, and programming
models. Should have background in high-performance, on-chip
multiport-transaction sequencing logic. Knowledge in the areas of
network protocols, network processing. Should have knowledge of bus
interfaces such as PCI, PCI-X, InfiniBand, Utopia, POS Phy, and fabric
interfaces. Interaction with standards bodies, system component
vendors a plus. Must have at least 5 years' experience.
