Compiler Optimization Engineer


Key member of Apple's Mac OS X Compiler Team, responsible for design
and implementation of state-of-the art optimization techniques for the
GNU C Compiler (GCC). Work with other engineering teams within Apple
to identify and address performance issues related to compiler code
generation. Cooperate with external open source organizations to
build support for Apple initiatives, leverage work of others and
reduce long-term maintenance costs.


Requires MSCS or equivalent and 3+ years industry experience
developing and maintaining optimizing compilers. Ideal candidates
will have experience with the GCC compiler, UNIX operating systems,
PowerPC processors and vector architectures. Must be team-oriented
and have excellent communication skills.

* Work with compiler team to implement compilers and linkers for a
variety of platforms
* Work with engineering team to develop and maintain run-time libraries
* Work with development team on compiler integration into existing and
future development environments
* Work with Palm OSŪ team on optimizations specific to our platform and
processor

* Knowledge of language theory (syntax and formal semantics)
* Understands compiler construction techniques
* 4 or more years of experience in software development for Windows,
Macintosh or Unix
* 4 or more years of experience programming in ANSI C and C++


Desired Qualifications
* Experienced in software development of Palm OSŪ
* 4 or more years of experience in ARM, StrongARM, and Thumb development
* 4 or more years experience in 68000 development
* Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability
to explain and document technical issues

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely
with leading design engineers in developing improved methodologies to
meet today's design challenges. In this key role the successful
candidate will make significant contributions to the success of the
company as the industry's leading IP provider.


The purpose of this job is threefold:
? To provide the high level of EDA expertise needed for the company to
accelerate its lead in designing competitive, low power consumption, high
performance, low cost processors and peripherals
? To provide the advanced design methodologies which are critical to the
efficient creation and integration of The company's silicon IP.
? To reduce the overall design cycle time by raising the level of design
automation with sophisticated EDA tools and design reuse.


Experience
? At least 3-5 years of relevant experience in the industry, a good
background in software with some hardware/ASIC design experience.
? Sound working knowledge of UNIX, C and shell programming essential,
however experience of perl, Tcl, awk etc. and some knowledge of VHDL/Verilog
would be useful.
? Experience of mainstream EDA tools such as Synopsys, Avant!, Cadence,
Mentor etc.
? Good understanding of ASIC and/or Full Custom design flows preferably with
an appreciation of hardware design and VLSI techniques.
